What is this error?
Your network's NAT (Network Address Translation) type is Strict or you have Double NAT, preventing you from joining multiplayer lobbies, voice chat, or party systems.

- CGNAT from ISP
- multiple routers in chain
- firewall blocking incoming connections
How to fix it
- Enable UPnP
- set ISP modem to bridge mode

NAT Type Strict or Double NAT — you can't join friends' parties, voice chat doesn't work, and matchmaking takes forever. NAT issues are the worst because they affect every multiplayer game you play.
Fix it:
- First, check if you have Double NAT: open Command Prompt, run 'tracert 8.8.8.8' — if the first TWO hops are private IPs (like 192.168.x.x or 10.x.x.x), you have Double NAT
- If you have an ISP modem AND your own router, put the ISP modem in BRIDGE MODE. Log into the ISP modem (usually 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1), find the bridge/passthrough setting, enable it. This is the #1 fix for Double NAT
- Enable UPnP on your router: log into your router settings, find UPnP (usually under NAT or Gaming), enable it
- Port forward for your specific game: Google '[game name] port forwarding' to find the exact ports needed. Forward both TCP and UDP
- If your ISP uses CGNAT (Carrier Grade NAT), you can't fix it with router settings. Call your ISP and ask for a public IP address — some ISPs charge extra for this
- DMZ your gaming PC as a last resort: put your PC's local IP in the router's DMZ setting. This opens all ports to your PC (less secure but fixes NAT)
- For Xbox/PlayStation games on PC, make sure the Xbox Networking service is running: Win+R > services.msc > find 'Xbox Live Networking Service' > Start
When to seek help
If this error keeps happening after trying the fixes above, it may point to a deeper hardware or system issue. Consider professional help if:
